President Sheikh Mohamed Announces 2026 as the Year of the Family - A National Priority
Assalamu alaikum. President Sheikh Mohamed described the family on Thursday as a “vital pillar of our nation’s future progress” while attending the Government Annual Meetings in Abu Dhabi.
He said that the growth and stability of families is a shared national duty, launching the National Family Growth Agenda 2031 and directing that 2026 be marked as the “Year of the Family.” The plan aims to make support for family values an urgent government priority to preserve our culture and identity.
“The National Family Growth Agenda 2031, launched today at the Government Annual Meetings, sets out a long-term strategic vision that recognises the family as a vital pillar of our nation’s future progress,” he wrote. “As a cornerstone of the community and the cradle of our shared values and identity, the family’s growth and stability are a collective priority and a shared national responsibility.”
Government policies and public campaigns will encourage family cohesion and strong relationships. A national task force of more than 20 federal and local entities has been formed to focus on three key areas: policy and programmes, behavioural interventions, and reproductive health. The group will review existing policies, explore social factors that influence family growth, and assess current reproductive health efforts.
Sheikh Mohamed emphasised that the wellbeing and growth of Emirati families are linked to the country’s identity, future, and security, saying “The family is the foundation of any strong society.” The Ministry of Family was set up to develop national strategies that both support family growth and strengthen its role in preserving values, national identity, education, traditions and customs. He added that meeting the challenges around family growth is not the Ministry’s job alone but requires everyone’s participation across society.
The Government Annual Meetings also covered topics such as artificial intelligence, the economy, tourism, humanitarian aid and national industry development. The event began with preparatory sessions earlier in the week, where various federal and local committees met and several new policies were announced.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, reflected on the meetings with pride, noting that officials gathered around shared priorities and common goals to discuss achievements and plan for a better life for people in the Emirates.
Other brief national notes and practical tips shared during the meetings and coverage included reminders about air quality precautions for people at home, public health tips like showering after being outside in poor conditions, and general transport and travel advice. There were also sports updates, cultural and entertainment notes, and business and automotive news mentioned in the broader briefing, reflecting the wide range of topics discussed at the summit.
