Pasuruan Raya BEM Condemns Alleged Extrajudicial Killing of Beji Resident

The Pasuruan Raya Student Executive Board (BEM) alliance has strongly condemned the actions of law enforcement officials that allegedly led to the death of WNC (43), a resident of Gununggangsir Village, Beji District, Pasuruan Regency, on Monday (8/3) afternoon. They pointed out the narrative claiming the victim died from "shock when approached by police" and criticized the handling as riddled with procedural irregularities, like no official assignment or arrest warrant, plus signs of physical violence shown by bruises and swelling on the victim's neck and head. Alliance coordinator M. Ubaidillah Abdi said this incident shows a failure to apply human rights-based policing principles and strongly suspects extrajudicial killing. He stressed that an apology from the Beji Police shouldn't blur the criminal investigation into the officers involved. Gununggangsir residents had earlier visited the Beji Police headquarters demanding justice. The BEM alliance is urging the East Java Police Professional and Internal Affairs Division and the National Police Headquarters to take over the investigation independently to avoid conflicts of interest, and demanding public transparency on the forensic autopsy results.
