NU and Muhammadiyah Support Sidoarjo Government in Eradicating Alcohol Circulation
The Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Management (PCNU) and the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) of Sidoarjo have expressed full support for the Sidoarjo Regency Government to take firm action against the circulation of alcohol (miras), which is seen as threatening the younger generation and public order. This support comes amid spotlight on the rampant sale of alcoholic beverages in Sidoarjo.
PCNU Sidoarjo Chairman Zainal Abidin emphasized that eradicating alcohol is a shared responsibility, including the government and religious organizations down to the village level. PCNU has mobilized all levels of management and autonomous bodies to protect the community from social problems and strengthen religious activities as a moral fortress.
Similarly, PDM Sidoarjo Chairman Prof. Dzoul Milal stressed a firm rejection of alcohol and has instructed the installation of anti-alcohol banners across all branches and sub-branches. Both organizations encourage the Sidoarjo Regency Government together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) to act decisively and build synergy with law enforcement and the community to create a safe environment and protect the young generation from the negative impacts of alcohol.
