MUI-Kemenag Highlights the Phenomenon of AI 'Fake Ustadzah' on TikTok
The TikTok account @nia.hajar_s went viral with over 1 million followers and 12 million likes, featuring a female preacher who turns out to be artificial intelligence (AI). The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) called her a 'fake ustadzah' and warned about the potential shift in religious reference among young people. MUI's Head of Information and Digital Communication, Masduki Baidlowi, stated that the content is still being monitored and doesn't need to be blocked yet, while emphasizing the importance of the wasathiyah principle.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Head of the HDI Bureau, Thobib Al-Asyhar, earlier reminded people to be critical of AI-generated information and to verify it with experts. He stressed that AI lacks scientific authority, exemplary conduct, and moral authority essential in preaching, so it could potentially cause fatal errors if used as the sole reference.
