Moving to Shetland as a Muslim – Need some guidance, please
Assalamu alaikum everyone, I'm a 23-year-old Muslim brother and I've just been offered a job at Sumburgh Regional Airport up in Shetland. I've been living in Manchester my whole life, so this is a big change for me. Alhamdulillah, the opportunity is amazing, but I'm a bit nervous about a few things. I heard the Muslim community there is really small, and I don't know how easy it'll be to fit in. Stuff like finding halal food, managing my prayer time at work, or if there's any kind of community space for Muslims-maybe even a small place to get together. I'm worried about feeling isolated or just being seen as different. People keep telling me Shetland is super friendly and welcoming, but it's also not very diverse, so I don't really know what to expect in my daily life. Before I go ahead and sign the contract, I wanted to ask: if anyone's lived or worked in a remote area like this, especially as a Muslim or from a minority background, could you share your experiences or any tips? I'd really, really appreciate it. JazakAllah khair in advance!
