Understanding Quranic Preservation Through Trusted Recitations
Salaam! If you question the reliability of hadith because they were passed down by people, you should also think about how we accept the various qirāʾāt (recitations) of the Quran. They were preserved through the same oral chains (isnād) as hadith, with scholars transmitting them all the way back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Quran wasn’t just kept as a written text; it was maintained through recitation over generations. That’s why we have well-known qirāʾāt like Ḥafṣ, Warsh, and Qālūn-each traced through trustworthy scholars. These recitations might have slight differences in pronunciation or wording, but they’re widely accepted because of their reliable transmission. Allah says in the Quran: “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian” (15:9). This assures us that the Quran is preserved, and the trusted recitations reflect that promise. So, trusting these transmissions aligns with our faith in Allah’s protection of the Quran.
