Ministry of Religious Affairs Launches Distance Learning Religious Scholarship for Quran Teachers
Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar emphasized the crucial strategic role of Quran teachers as pillars in preserving the nation's moral foundation. This statement was delivered at the National Graduation of Quran Teachers at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on Saturday (May 2, 2026), under the theme 'Preserving the Word, Illuminating the Age.' The Minister highlighted the contributions of Quran teachers in shaping community character and maintaining religious life, and reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing their welfare through social protection support.
As a concrete step, the Ministry of Religious Affairs launched a Distance Learning Bachelor's Religious Scholarship for educators at Islamic boarding schools and Quran Education Institutions. This program allows teachers to pursue higher education without leaving their teaching activities, offering study programs in Arabic Language Education, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education, and Islamic Religious Education at UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati.
Scholarship registration is open from April 1 to May 31, 2026, with a flexible online-based learning system. The Head of the Sub-Directorate of Diniyah Takmiliyah Education and Quran Education, Aziz Syafiuddin, explained that all educational costs are fully covered by the government. This program aims to strengthen the quality of Quran education in Indonesia and ensure that Quran teachers remain relevant in the modern era.
