Minister of Industry Expands Halal Industry to Eurasia, Kyrgyzstan Becomes Strategic Gateway
The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan at INNOPROM 2026 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, opens a new chapter in Indonesia's strategy to expand its halal industry influence into the Eurasian region. Kyrgyzstan is seen as a strategic door to the trade networks in Central Asia and Eurasia, home to hundreds of millions of consumers.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stressed that the halal industry must be developed to its fullest, given the growing global trend in halal product consumption. This cooperation is expected to open up wider space for penetrating Indonesian halal products into regions that haven't been optimally tapped so far.
The scope of cooperation covers competitiveness development, information exchange, policy consultation, human resource training, product promotion, and joint project facilitation. Both countries will also hold reciprocal visits and participate in international halal industry exhibitions.
This cooperation is a step in economic diplomacy that leverages the halal industry to strengthen trade relations and national competitiveness. With the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia aims to become a major hub of the global halal industry through mutually beneficial collaboration.
