Mahfud MD: Death Penalty More Fitting for High-Profile Corruptors
Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated that the death penalty is more appropriate for major corruptors like Dadan Hindayana. He thinks the punishment of cutting off hands doesn't compare to the state losses reaching trillions.
Mahfud said light punishments actually benefit the perpetrators. He gave the example that in Saudi Arabia, hand amputation doesn't stop theft because repeat offenders keep committing crimes.
He stressed the importance of removing corruptors' access and power so they don't repeat their crimes. His view also clarifies misunderstandings about applying Islamic law in corruption cases.
