Kuwait raids alleged terror-financing ring that used a pharmacy as a cover
Assalamu alaikum - Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said on Thursday that security services have arrested people believed to be part of a terrorist-financing network that was operating through a pharmacy in a private hospital.
Officials say the suspects were stopped while trying to smuggle cash and medicine out of the country to back a banned group. Police reportedly uncovered evidence linking them to the funding of extremist activity and using the pharmacy as a front for illegal work.
The ministry added that intensive field investigations and surveillance led to the arrests and seizure of proof, though it didn’t give many more details about who was involved or exactly what they’d been doing.
According to the statement, the network’s goal was to “undermine the country’s security and destabilise public order,” and security agencies are determined to track down anyone who tries to threaten Kuwait’s stability. The ministry stressed that protecting national security and the safety of citizens and residents is a top priority, and those found guilty will be held fully accountable under Kuwaiti law, inshaAllah.
The statement also warned authorities will remain alert to any attempts to support terrorist groups in any way. Last month, security forces detained an Arab expatriate accused of planning attacks on houses of worship - authorities said that arrest was part of their ongoing vigilance to keep the nation safe.
Kuwait hasn’t had a terrorist attack on its soil since the 2015 suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque in the capital. May Allah protect the people and preserve the country’s peace.
