Kemenhaj Revokes Permits and Files Criminal Charges Against KBIH Involved in Rp1.4 Billion Hajj Proxy Scam
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) is cracking down hard on a Hajj Guidance Group (KBIH) that scammed hundreds of pilgrims out of Rp1.4 billion. The con involved offering hajj proxy services and dam payment services, pulling in Indonesians living in Saudi Arabia. It all came to light after pilgrims started complaining that they never got any payment receipts.
Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stressed that the culprits will have their permits revoked and face criminal charges. The Pilgrim Protection Team from the Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah has already detained those involved, though they're still digging into exactly how many people were in on it. Dahnil found it pretty disheartening that these guys actually know their religious jurisprudence well, yet they turned pilgrims into a commodity.
Kemenhaj is committed to a major crackdown on rogue KBIHs to protect the integrity of hajj organization.
