Islamic Campuses Must Become Centers of Social Solutions
Secretary General of Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs Kamaruddin Amin stressed the importance of state Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN) in addressing real societal issues. He said this while inaugurating the Faculty of Science and Technology (Saintek) at UIN Salatiga on Saturday (4/7/2026).
PTKIN are encouraged not only to focus on academics but also to become centers of social solutions by enhancing community service and collaborating with local governments. UIN Salatiga responds through its Faculty of Science and Technology, which carries the concept of a Green Wasathiyah Campus, integrating science, Islamic values, and environmental care.
UIN Salatiga Rector Zakiyuddin Baidhawy expressed a commitment to building public trust through clean governance and graduates who are responsible toward the environment and humanity. The campus has a global reputation with highly ranked scientific journals, such as IJIMS in Q1 Scimago for eight years.
This step is expected to make PTKIN an epicenter of inclusive knowledge-based development, producing applied innovators with broad impacts on society.
