Is It Okay to Delay the Obligatory Bath? Here's What Scholars Say
Delaying the obligatory bath for a person in a state of major impurity is allowed in Islam, as long as it doesn't get close to the end of the obligatory prayer time. Evidence from a hadith about Abu Hurairah RA shows that a person in major impurity isn't considered impure. But it's disliked to delay it without a valid excuse.
Scholars like Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani emphasize that hastening the bath after major impurity is better if there are no obstacles. Meanwhile, Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali explains that the limit for delaying only applies as long as the prayer time hasn't nearly run out.
Missing a prayer because you purposely delayed the bath until the time expired is sinful. The Prophet SAW reminded that negligence only occurs once a person is awake and aware, not because of sleep. So, if you wake up and realize you're in a state of major impurity, purify yourself right away so you can pray on time.
