In 2126 - Have You Prepared, my brother/sister?

As-salāmu ʿalaykum. In 2126, just a hundred years from now, every one of us reading this will be beneath the ground, our bodies returned to the soil. By then our eternal outcome - whether Jannah or Jahannam - will already be known to us. Up above, the houses we lived in will belong to others, our clothes will be worn by new people, and our cars will be driven by strangers. And us? For the most part, we’ll be forgotten. When was the last time you thought about your great-grandfather’s daily life? How often does your great-grandmother cross your mind? We make a great deal of fuss over our small presence in this world, crying and fighting over things that are fleeting. Generations before us lived and left, and generations after us will do the same. Each of us only gets a brief moment to glance at this Dunya before handing the trust to the next. Most of us never fulfil even a fraction of our hopes. Our lives are far shorter than we imagine. In 2126, from the grave many will realise how little value worldly dreams had, and how small those ambitions were that centred on this life. Many of us will wish we had spent more time on the important matters - the matters of Deen - and collected good deeds, especially the kind that benefit us after death. Some will cry out, but it will be too late: رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ “My Lord, return me, so I may do good in what I left behind.” But the reply will be stern: كَلَّا إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَائِلُهَا وَمِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ بَرْزَخٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ “No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.” Many will regret and say: يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي “I wish I had prepared for my life.” The angel of death won’t delay until we become righteous. Let’s strive now to do righteous deeds, to turn back to Allah, to pray, give charity, mend family ties, and leave ongoing good behind. May Allah guide us and accept our efforts. Aameen.
