My story as the only Muslim in class

Assalamu alaikum, everyone. It’s been a long while since these things happened, but I wanted to share some of my experiences. I’m not really outgoing or good at making friends, and I only ever had a few really good ones. School was fine for me up until 4th grade-I had 2-3 friends I’d talk to and play with. Then one day during break, while I was doing my homework, a classmate came up to me and asked, “You’re a Muslim, right?” I said yeah, and he suddenly asked why I live in India. I didn’t even know how to reply. He went on about how I should be Pakistani, but dude, I was born here-my family has lived in the same town for five generations. Then came the cricket thing. I don’t get cricket; I’ve never understood what an over is, it just doesn’t interest me. One time, our country beat Pakistan (as always), and the next day some kid told me my “team” lost. I hadn’t even known there was a match-I wasn’t allowed to watch TV anyway. I asked what he was talking about, and he said it was the match. I just didn’t know what to say. These kinds of things kept happening until Covid, and then lockdown brought the social media age. Another thing about me is that I tend to feel cold, so I got into the habit of wearing a sweater or jacket even when going to coaching. One summer, when it was a bit hot, I decided to take off my jacket. I was sitting near the window, front of the class, and some students were at the back. While I was taking it off, I overheard a guy joke, “Cover up, brothers, he’s taking off his jacket-we might get blown up.” I knew exactly what he meant. I couldn’t say or do anything; I just had to let it go. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve had worse experiences that I don’t even want to share. Alhamdulillah, my best friends aren’t like that, and I thank Allah for them. Thanks for reading. May you have a blessed day, brothers and sisters.
