Hundreds of Kids in Jombang Enjoy Traditional Games During National Children's Day Celebration

Laughter and cheers filled the yard of SDN Kademangan 3, Mojoagung, Jombang, as 153 kids-114 elementary students and 39 kindergartners-joined in the 2026 National Children's Day (HAN) celebration. They got to play all sorts of traditional games and watch a theater show about aliens. Ten games from different regions were introduced, like rangku alu, balogo, stilts, bakiak, dakon, jump rope, and rope stilts. After playing, the kids were treated to a theater performance about an alien stranded on Earth. The founder of Rumah Merdeka Indonesia, Alfam Tomim, said this activity gives kids back their right to play while also preserving cultural heritage. “We go around to schools bringing traditional games so kids can fall in love with Indonesian culture again,” he said on Friday (7/24). The theater show was made from used cardboard and bamboo to teach that creativity can come from simple things. He hopes HAN will remind everyone of how important it is for children to have the right to play and express themselves. Dina Setia Pratiwi (12), a sixth grader, said she was really happy. “It was so much fun playing with friends. This was my first time,” she said.
