Environment Minister Targets to Resolve Waste Issues in NTB in Two Years
Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat aims to have the waste problems in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) fully sorted out within two years. He said this during a meeting with NTB Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal and all the regents and mayors across NTB. The waste management strategy will be tailored to local wisdom in Lombok and Sumbawa islands to make it more effective.
Apart from waste, the government is also prioritizing reforestation and restoring water catchment areas to cut down the risk of hydrometeorological disasters. Damage to catchment areas and erosion caused by human activity are major concerns.
The government is optimistic that positive results will start showing within 6 to 12 months through collaboration between central, regional governments, and communities. It's hoped that NTB's environment will become cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.
