Dubai plans 60 affordable schools to serve 120,000 students by 2033 - Assalamu alaikum
Assalamu alaikum - Dubai has revealed a plan to open 60 affordable schools that together will educate about 120,000 students by 2033 as part of a long-term push to make quality education more accessible.
The emirate is encouraging investment in lower-cost schools by offering reductions on government charges like cheaper land leases and other fee discounts to support the project. The plan was approved recently by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed while chairing a Dubai Executive Council meeting.
This move is part of Dubai’s Education Strategy 2033, which aims to be among the world’s top cities for education quality. The focus on affordable schools comes after education leaders highlighted the heavy financial pressure many families face. Aisha Miran, director general of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, said the authority is committed to “affordable prices” as schools expand to meet a growing population.
KHDA noted that in return for lower building and land rents, schools would commit to offering good education at reasonable fees. School fees in Dubai vary a lot - some high-end schools charge over Dh100,000 a year for older students, while other schools remain much more affordable. The goal of the new initiative is to make sure the education sector serves families across the whole community, not just those who can pay top prices.
Dubai’s wider targets include opening at least 100 new private schools by 2033. So far around 15 new private schools have launched in the past two years, and more applications are under review. Currently there are over 220 private schools serving students of many nationalities, and enrolment has been growing year on year.
May Allah make education easy and accessible for all families. Please share if you think more affordable schooling is needed where you live.
