DPR Condemns Booze Promo Using Quran Verses at Music Festival
Member of Commission VI DPR RI, Kawendra Lukistian, slammed the alleged use of Quran verses in promoting Newport brand alcoholic beverages at The Sounds Project music festival. He sees it as not just a marketing strategy slip-up, but something that touches on religious sensitivity and business ethics. Kawendra urges BPKN to investigate and demand strict sanctions if violations are proven.
This case blew up after a video circulated on social media showing festival-goers taking part in a challenge to memorize Surah Ad-Dhuha with alcoholic drinks as prizes. The Sounds Project organizers have apologized, stressing that the activity took place without the committee’s knowledge, and condemned any behavior that turns religion into promotional material.
