A Big Hurdle Before Embracing Islam
Assalamu alaikum, everyone. I’m from the Midwest in America, and I’ve been searching through many faiths. Islam is the only one that truly clicks for me. Honestly, I’ve never shared this with anyone, but I’ve said my shahada alone a few times. Then doubt crept in, and I told myself I’m not Muslim, I can’t be, and I slipped back into my old ways. I think about this every single day, but I can’t take that final step. I’m pretty sure Islam is the truth, but one thing holds me back. I won’t dive into details, but I was raised in a smaller religion that doesn’t do much apologetics, and I haven’t heard many Muslims talk about it. It’s tough for me to prove it wrong. If I could just see clearly that my childhood faith is false, becoming Muslim would be so easy, because Islam is the only other path that makes sense. Actually, Islam makes the most sense, but I see people in my family-maybe smarter than me-who stick with our upbringing and dismiss Islam. That makes me question if I’m mistaken to think Islam is true. What I’m trying to say is: I almost wholeheartedly believe Islam is the truth. But my doubt comes from feeling like I need to know every other religion is false, especially the smaller ones. What’s the criteria for determining that? If I can be sure that the faith I grew up with is not the truth, I’m ready to be a Muslim, insha’Allah. I realize part of my struggle is because I was raised in it, so I keep wanting to give it more chances. But it’s hard to wake up every day and ignore Islam-it feels so natural. I once heard someone say on TV that being Muslim fits like a tailor-made suit, and I feel that deeply. Maybe every revert goes through this doubt and loneliness, but it’s heavy on my heart. Please, my dear brothers and sisters, make du’a for me that Allah guides me to the truth and helps me leave behind this worldly life to live righteously. Jazakum Allahu khairan.
