Death Toll from Colombia's Massive Earthquake Rises to 181
The death toll from the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia has climbed to at least 181 people, with another 1,310 injured. Cali and Pereira are the hardest-hit cities, recording 95 and 72 fatalities respectively, along with dozens of collapsed buildings.
Several cities like Quibdo, Cali, Manizales, Pereira, and Armenia are still on red alert. Flight operations at major airports remain suspended. The government has declared a national disaster status to speed up emergency response.
According to USGS data, the quake struck at 7:34 a.m. local time, centered about 5 km east of San Jose del Palmar, at a depth of 107 km. A magnitude 5.0 aftershock was recorded around 16 km west of the city.
