Caretaker at Islamic Boarding School in Jepara Detained on Suspicion of Molesting Female Student
A caretaker at the Al Anwar Islamic Boarding School in Mantingan Village, Jepara, IAJ (60), has been detained by the Jepara Police after allegations of sexual molestation against a female student came to light. The case emerged when the victim's mother discovered inappropriate messages on WhatsApp from the suspect to her daughter, identified as MAR (19), on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The family immediately reported the incident, and the investigation uncovered digital evidence supporting allegations of coercion.
After investigation, the suspect is alleged to have used a method of reciting Arabic text in front of the victim and giving Rp100,000 as counterfeit dowry, claiming a unilateral 'ijab qabul' (marriage contract) process without witnesses. Under this claim, IAJ is suspected of forcing the victim to satisfy his sexual desires repeatedly at the boarding school’s mineral water production warehouse from April to July 2025, causing the victim trauma.
Jepara Police Chief, AKBP Hadi Kristanto, and Head of Criminal Investigation at Jepara Police, AKP Faizal Wildan, explained that the police have secured crucial evidence such as the victim’s clothing and a cellphone containing conversation history. The suspect faces charges under the Sexual Violence Crime Law with a maximum penalty of 12 years imprisonment, while the victim is receiving psychological support for mental recovery.
