Banyuwangi Hajj Pilgrims Begin Collecting Luggage Ahead of Departure
Prospective Hajj pilgrims from Banyuwangi have started handing in their luggage as preparations for their departure to the holy land begin. The suitcases are marked with unusual items like dolls, flip-flops, and cloth napkins to make them easily recognizable.
Each piece of luggage has already been tagged with a barcode sticker. Besides the suitcases, the barcode is also used on a lanyard badge and is attached to a crossbody bag.
The pilgrims intentionally add personal items to their luggage so it can be easily identified. Examples of items added include dolls, sandals, and other personal belongings. The luggage collection process is carried out over two days (Saturday - Sunday, March 9-10).
Groups 83, 84, and 85 are collecting their luggage at the Banyuwangi Ministry of Religious Affairs Office. Meanwhile, Group 82 is collecting theirs at the Mabrur Multazam Hajj Organizer Office in Gambiran District. On March 15, the luggage will be loaded onto trucks and sent to the Sukolilo Hajj Dormitory in Surabaya.
The luggage is limited to a maximum of 32 kilograms. Pilgrims are prohibited from bringing liquids, aerosols, and gels exceeding 100 milliliters in their cabin bags. Some electronic devices are also prohibited. Cigarettes are restricted. Personal data is not allowed to be placed in the luggage.
Officials advise that the collected luggage should be locked and recommend using standard TSA-approved locks. Prohibited electronic items include rice cookers and water heaters. Cigarettes are limited to 200 sticks; any excess will be confiscated.
Currently, there are 1,312 prospective Hajj pilgrims from Banyuwangi, divided into groups 71, 82, 83, 84, and 85. The departure will be carried out in stages according to each group on Tuesday (March 12).
