Seeking Understanding: The Reality Behind Immigrant Communities from Muslim Backgrounds

Assalamu alaikum, everyone. First off, I really don’t mean to upset anyone, and I ask for forgiveness if anything I say comes across wrong. I’m still young and trying to figure out my own views, so that’s why I’m asking. I have a lot of respect for Islam, even though I’m Christian, and I’ve been reading about Arab history with great interest. I’ve even been studying Arabic for the past year. I live in the EU, and as many of you know, there’s been rising tension toward immigrants lately. In almost every debate, the focus is on “Muslim immigrants.” Of course, I find this generalization pretty questionable. I haven’t met many Muslims myself, but those I have met are some of the most just and kind people I know. Though, I should mention I’m from Eastern Europe, so here we mostly just hear stories about the “terrible” effects immigration has had on the West. Like I said, I don’t agree with that viewpoint. But I can’t lie-I’ve always thought where there’s smoke, there’s fire. If you check the statistics out there, it seems like in places with high immigration, things like safety or cleanliness have gone down, along with other negative stuff. This might just be people twisting the numbers, but maybe some of it is true. So here’s my struggle. How come a community whose religion calls for peace, cleanliness (I read that during the Caliphate era, Muslims were among the cleanest people in the world), and sincerity sometimes shows the opposite values when they move abroad? Am I completely misunderstanding something? Jazakum Allahu khairan for your patience. Once again, I hope no one takes offense-I’m not accusing or labeling anyone, just trying to have an honest talk.
