As-salamu alaykum - Do Strict Parents Encourage Dishonesty?

As-salamu alaykum everyone. I heard on a podcast someone say very bluntly that strict parents raise liars. Do you think that’s true? Were you rebellious as a kid because rules felt too tight, or did you act out to prove yourself, show your value, or just to push back? I’m curious about personal experiences and thoughts from a Muslim perspective - how do we balance good upbringing and honesty while keeping the deen and family harmony?
