Are my personal beliefs compatible with Islamic teachings?
Assalamu alaikum. I'd like to ask about my personal beliefs and whether they align with Islam. I don't follow any religion right now. My father is Catholic but not practicing, and my mother has a mix of Korean folk traditions and some Buddhist ideas. So religion wasn't a big part of my childhood. I went to church a few times as a kid but quickly lost interest. For many years, I didn't think about religion. But in the past few years, after facing difficulties, I've come to believe in God. I feel that when I sincerely pray to Him in tough times, I get help. One time, I had severe food poisoning at a train station. I prayed desperately, and a man next to me turned out to be a doctor who helped me. Some might call it coincidence, but I feel deep gratitude and awe toward God. Now I pray not only when I need something but also to thank God. I also strive to treat others with kindness, feeling that blessings should be shared. This has shaped my career and life choices. Then I met my husband, who is a practicing Muslim. Getting to know him changed my misconceptions about Islam. I'm now reading the Qur'an and learning. Many of my beliefs seem similar: one God, prayer, gratitude, kindness. But there might be differences I don't understand. So I ask: Are my beliefs compatible with Islam? Any conflicts? What should I study next? I'm not claiming to be Muslim, just learning with an open mind. Jazakum Allahu khairan.
