4 People Arrested in Connection with Quran Verse Memorization Challenge with Alcohol Prize at Ancol Named Suspects
Police arrested four people related to a Quran verse memorization challenge with an alcoholic beverage prize at the Newport liquor brand booth during The Sounds Project event in Ancol, North Jakarta. The four have been named suspects: RES, AK, I, and M.
Based on the investigation, RES acted as the host, I and AK as those who proposed the challenge, while M was the person who accepted the challenge and was recorded on video reciting Surah Ad-Dhuha through a loudspeaker. RES and AK are detained at the Polda Metro Jaya detention center.
The case came to light after a video went viral on Sunday (8/9/2026). Police involved digital forensic experts, Islamic religious experts from MUI and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as other experts in the investigation.
