Zaqqum Fruit: A Depiction of Food for the Inhabitants of Hell in the Qur'an
The Qur'an describes the zaqqum fruit as one of the torments for the people of hell. This tree grows from the bottom of the Blazing Fire, its spathes are like the heads of devils, and it tastes bitter and smells foul.
In Surah As-Saffat verses 62-68, it's mentioned that the wrongdoers will eat the zaqqum fruit until their bellies are full, then drink scalding water.
Surah Ad-Dukhan verses 43-46 portray zaqqum as food for the sinners, boiling in their bellies like molten brass. Meanwhile, Surah Al-Waqi'ah verses 51-54 explain that those who are astray and deny the Day of Recompense will eat zaqqum, then drink boiling water.
