Understanding Allah's mercy in times of deep struggle

Salam, friends. I’ve been wrestling with my faith lately. We know Allah is Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem-the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. He sees our pain, our hardships. So it’s hard to grasp why someone struggling with overwhelming mental pain might face such a severe consequence. If a person is truly remorseful, even in their lowest moment, wouldn’t that count? Alhamdulillah, I’m trying-I pray, make dua, and I’m getting professional help. But honestly, I still don’t fully understand.
