Two Tulungagung Regents Caught in Successive KPK Sting Operations
Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo has been named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in a sting operation over allegations of extorting officials within the Tulungagung Regency Government in East Java. Along with his aide, Dwi Yoga Ambal, he has been detained at the KPK Detention Center from April 11 to 30, 2026.
Previously, in 2018, Tulungagung Regent Syahri Mulyo was also caught in a KPK sting operation related to a bribery case for a local PUPR (Public Works and Public Housing) infrastructure project. Despite being a suspect, Syahri Mulyo managed to win the 2018 regional election with his running mate Maryoto Birowo, defeating their rivals with 60.7% of the vote.
This case sets a record where two Tulungagung regents in a row have been targeted in KPK operations, highlighting anti-corruption efforts in the region.
