Two Israeli Soldiers Killed by Bomb in Southern Lebanon
Two Israeli reserve soldiers, Harel Birenstock and Tamir Vaknin, were killed after being caught in a bomb trap inside a building in the village of Majdal Zoun, southern Lebanon, on Wednesday (8/5/2026). Several other soldiers were reportedly injured in the incident. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the event, while Al Jazeera said the village is under Israeli military occupation. There was no Hezbollah presence at the site, so this incident is considered significant.
The Israeli military announced retaliatory strikes in southern Lebanon the same day, calling it a response to ceasefire violations by Hezbollah. In fact, Israel is seen as more frequently breaching the agreement. An IDF spokesperson ordered the forced displacement of Al Mansouri residents northward before the strikes. Air raids also hit Tibnin, killing one person and wounding 12 others.
Data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health shows that since March 2, 2026, Israeli attacks have killed at least 4,333 people and wounded 12,250 others.
