Tips for New Muslims on Making Ramadan Fasting Easier
Assalamu alaikum everyone. I'm reaching out for a friend who's a new Muslim from a Chinese background in North America. They embraced Islam last year, just before Ramadan, and found the fasting really tough. Some of the struggles included: - Working long hours during the day led to dehydration and exhaustion. - Waking up for suhoor disrupted their sleep, making the days harder. - Often breaking fast alone because we live a bit apart, so daily iftar together wasn't easy. I suggested the local mosque, but they felt out of place there. - Feeling like a stranger in mosques where the community didn't share their background or understand them, making it hard to fit in. It seemed easier for those who grew up Muslim. By the last few days of Ramadan, frustration got the better of them, and they stopped fasting. Alhamdulillah, we've since found a Chinese Muslim group here that hosts iftars on Saturdays and meets weekends, which helps. As someone born into Islam, I find things more routine, so I'd appreciate advice from others who've faced similar hurdles. What helped you get through Ramadan, especially with fasting and finding community? Maybe even share how you planned your meals. Jazakallah khair.
