Three Years in Captivity: Unraveling the Yuvita Tri Rezeki Torture Case that Rocked Bandung
The case of confinement and abuse against Yuvita Tri Rezeki (29) by her boyfriend, Taufik Hidayat (30), came to light after the victim was found in critical condition at a boarding house in Cileunyi, Bandung Regency, and rushed to Hasan Sadikin General Hospital. For about three years, Yuvita was allegedly held captive and tortured, causing serious injuries including vision impairment. The boarding house keeper played a role in her rescue after noticing her deteriorating condition.
Taufik was named a suspect and placed on the wanted list, before finally being arrested by the West Java Regional Police thanks to his online transaction trail. He was charged with assault and confinement, but public pressure mounted to charge him with more severe offenses, including deprivation of liberty, given the level of cruelty the victim endured.
This case sparked reactions from the House of Representatives, advocacy groups, and local government. The Governor of West Java stated that the government would cover Yuvita's medical expenses, while the victim's physical and psychological recovery is expected to be lengthy. The public highlighted the importance of early detection of violence in intimate relationships and strengthening legal protections for victims.
