Historic Darb Zubaida reservoirs showcase resilient water engineering
RAFAH: The historic reservoirs along Darb Zubaida demonstrate sophisticated water management techniques, with a tiered interior design that helped improve access to water, filter impurities and protect the structures from flood damage. The stair-like interior is one of the defining engineering features of the reservoirs, increasing their stability while allowing them to withstand centuries of use. Darb Zubaida features about 50 large reservoirs and water basins built to serve pilgrims and traders along the historic route, which stretches for more than 1,400 km.
