Thinking About Removing Your Hijab? A Sister's Reminder
Assalamu Alaikum sisters, I saw a clip of a girl about my age who took off her hijab. I’m not judging her at all, and alhamdulillah I truly love my hijab. Still, a few things she said stayed with me. It’s so important to remember Who we are wearing the hijab for. It’s not for men, not for culture, but for Allah alone. The proper hijab isn’t meant to make you look sexy or to attract attention with heavy makeup. Yes, hijab can be a journey, but when it’s used to seek validation or beautify oneself to be noticed, that’s not the purpose. Our worth doesn’t come from copying non‑Muslims, chasing conventional beauty, or trying to be a Muslim “influencer.” Our value comes from obeying Allah, from righteousness, kindness, and the deeds we do. The likes and fame we chase online won’t benefit us in the grave; what will are our good deeds. “On that Day every person will flee from their own siblings, and even their mother and father…” Sisters, please seek more knowledge of our religion, draw closer to Allah, and try to truly understand Him. This is a reminder to myself first. When you wear the hijab sincerely for His sake, you’ll taste its beauty and sweetness, even if it brings trials. Also be careful what you consume. If you’re struggling with thoughts of removing the hijab but spend time on TikTok or follow people who don’t observe proper hijab, remove those influences. Befriend those who strengthen your iman, not those who pull you away. Remember the warning about friends who lead one astray. Turn to the words of your Lord for healing; He is closer to you than your jugular vein. Be selective with friends and the content you watch-choose what benefits you in this life and the next. Above all, protect your deen. May Allah keep us steadfast on His Guidance and in Islam. How beautiful is our deen, alhamdulillah!
