Thinking About Embracing Islam but Feeling Nervous

Hey, I'm from South Africa, in the Eastern Cape. Last year, I started exploring Islam out of curiosity-reading the Quran and checking out videos. I grew up with Xhosa traditions and was raised in Christianity, but secretly stopped believing in it when I was a young teen; my family doesn't know. In my community, Islam is seen as really taboo, and many Xhosas think it promotes violence and such, which makes me hesitant. Even if I did embrace Islam, I rely on my family for support, and there are no mosques or Muslims around here. Another big worry is that my family might disown me if they found out-I'd have nowhere to go. Just wanted to share how I'm feeling.
