The Ruling on Helping the Wife at Home in Islam
In Islam, helping the wife at home is very permissible and considered a praiseworthy act. A husband is commanded to treat his wife kindly, as Allah SWT says in Surah An-Nisa verse 19: "And live with them in kindness."
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known as a head of household who always helped his wife with household chores. In a hadith narrated by Bukhari, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "He used to help his family with their work. When it was time for prayer, he would go out to pray." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said, "The best of you are those who are best to their wives." (Reported by At-Tirmidhi).
Islam emphasizes that marriage should bring tranquility and cultivate love and affection between husband and wife, as stated in Surah Ar-Rum verse 21. Simple actions like washing dishes, cleaning the house, or helping take care of the children can be a form of a husband's affection.
A husband is encouraged to be kind, just, intimate and friendly, and to adorn himself for his wife. This shows that Islam regulates the mutual relationship between husband and wife fairly and does not demand only one party.
