Selangor Paves the Way for Indonesian Halal Business Expansion into ASEAN
The Selangor state government in Malaysia is positioning itself as a strategic gateway for Indonesian products and investment into the ASEAN market, especially in the halal industry sector. This offer was presented at the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS)@ASEAN in Bandung. Selangor's Menteri Besar, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, emphasized the commitment by saying, "Selangor is ready to be your entry point to Malaysia and the ASEAN market."
Selangor, being the state with the largest economy in Malaysia, boasts world-class infrastructure, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and efficient distribution networks. This cooperation is seen as strategic, given that bilateral trade between Indonesia and Malaysia reached 26.51 billion US dollars in 2025, with a 2.6% increase in January–May 2026. This momentum opens up opportunities to strengthen the regional halal supply chain, from production to distribution.
Approved investments in Selangor in 2025 exceeded the target, reaching 83.9 billion Malaysian ringgit and creating over 61 thousand jobs. Priority areas for cooperation include the halal industry, renewable energy, logistics, the digital economy, and food security. For Indonesia, this collaboration isn't just about boosting exports; it's also a chance to build an integrated ASEAN halal supply chain and expand access to global markets.
