Saudi Arabia Installs Smart Sensors in Mina to Monitor Hajj Pilgrims
The Saudi government introduced a smart sensor system in Mina that integrates with the Nusuk card to monitor the movement of Hajj pilgrims in real-time. This innovation, reported by the Saudi Press Agency on May 2, 2026, aims to enhance crowd management efficiency during the Hajj season of 1447 Hijri.
The smart sensors send accurate data analysis to decision-makers, allowing officials to monitor location density and smooth pilgrim flow to avoid risky overcrowding. The Nusuk card, available digitally or in print, serves as an identity verification tool and access pass to holy sites, including the Grand Mosque.
This system simplifies pilgrim data identification in Mina, minimizes the risk of getting lost, and ensures orderly access to tents and transportation. The Nusuk card has been distributed in pilgrims' home countries before departure and is a mandatory requirement for entering the Makkah area, holy sites, the Grand Mosque, and the Prophet's Mosque. This update follows an evaluation of the success of the previous Hajj season, during which over 1.6 million cards were distributed.
