Respecting Utensil Separation in Muslim Hospitality
As-salamu alaykum, I've been curious about a practice I've observed in our community. In our local eateries, there are often separate counters for halal and non-halal food, and when we return our dishes, they're sorted into two groups for washing. I was wondering, is it a common practice for Muslims to use a separate set of cutlery for their meals? I understand the importance of avoiding pork and its by-products, but I'm not clear on why the utensils need to be separated even after they've been washed. This question isn't just out of curiosity; it could also be helpful to know for future gatherings if I were to host a Muslim guest at my home. Jazakum Allahu khayran for any insight you can provide.
