Nepal Flash Flood: Two Hydropower Workers Survive After 9 Days Trapped Underground

Two workers from the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Plant in Nepal were rescued alive after being stuck in an underground structure for nine days because of a flash flood. A joint SAR team pulled them out on Friday (4/9/2026). They are Sanjay Sah, a mechanical foreman from Saptari District, and Kabir Maharjan, a senior mechanical supervisor from Kirtipur. Both had been trapped since the Bhotekoshi River overflowed and brought thick mud on August 26, 2026. Sanjay Sah did something heroic-he directed about 45 of his coworkers to get to safety before he himself couldn't make it out in time. While stuck down there, he kept praying.
