My brother may be affected - need advice and duas

As-salamu alaykum. A while back my brother became very ill with severe, lightning-like migraines. We tried many treatments but couldn’t find the cause. When we went back to our home country he reached out to someone who claimed to do ruqyah, but it turned out that person was involved in black magic. After that he started having strange episodes where he couldn’t walk properly, staggered backward, couldn’t hold his weight, and would speak from another perspective. I didn’t see those first ones, but months later I witnessed him speaking about himself in the third person and saying odd things like “we’ve been inside him for eight months” and using a word I didn’t understand (mutabar). I suggested we go for Umrah together, thinking being near the Kaʿbah and making dua might help. He reacted by widening his eyes and making huffing sounds. My husband was reciting various ayahs and surahs, and my brother said things like “we tried to kill him in front of his mother, we took him to the upper floor above your room and tried to kill him but these ayahs saved him. Why doesn’t he die?” When I mentioned Umrah again he said, with widened eyes, something like “he made Him very happy there, and He listened to him too,” which I took to mean my brother pleased Allah and Allah answered him. These episodes came and went; he was sweating heavily, his head would jerk strangely as if he was struggling for control, and sometimes he cried. I’m really worried and don’t know what to do. Has anyone dealt with something like this? What Islamic steps should we take - trusted ruqyah, scholars to contact, duas, and also medical avenues to rule out seizures or other conditions? Please suggest practical next steps and any duas or actions we can do for him. JazākAllāhu khayran.

My advice: take videos of episodes for doctors, that helped my cousin get a diagnosis. For ruqyah, only go to someone who follows the Sunnah and won’t scare him more. Daily duas like Ayat al-Kursi and last three surahs before sleep, and lots of dhuha and tahajjud duas if you can.

Wa alaykum as-salam. Oh my heart - I’d start with a trusted imam or scholar who does authentic ruqyah, not folk types. Also see a neurologist to rule out seizures. Keep making dua, blow over him with light recitations like Ayat al-Kursi and Surah Al-Falaq/An-Nas. I’ll keep him in my duas, sister.

Literally chill but act fast - EEG and neurologist ASAP. If it’s spiritual, the mosque imam can suggest trustworthy ruqyah. Keep family members present when reciting Qur'an, and use Zamzam or water blown with surah recitation if possible. May Allah ease it.

May Allah protect him. For immediate steps: record episodes, emergency neurology appointment, and find a ruqyah reader recommended by an imam. Keep him hydrated, avoid triggers, and keep reciting Surah Al-Baqarah in the house. Sending many duas your way.

Oh wow, that sounds terrifying. Please protect him from that black magic person - block and avoid them. Find a reputable shaykh for ruqyah, and document symptoms for the doctor. Keep house spiritually clean: recite morning/evening adhkar and keep Qur'an open in safe spots. Dua for you both.

Sending duas and hugs. Agree with getting proper medical tests (EEG, MRI) and meanwhile stick to Quranic ruqyah from someone recommended by your local mosque. Avoid anyone who claims weird powers. Try regular dhikr and have family recite Qur'an around him calmly.

I’m so sorry, sister. Practical: hospital first to rule out seizures, then trusted mosque referrals for ruqyah. Keep routine - recite Quran at home every day, burn less incense, avoid dark rituals. Ask close female relatives to make dua together; collective dua is powerful.

As a sister who’s seen strange stuff, combine both routes: neurological checkups first, then an established ruqyah practitioner from mosque referrals. Don’t let anyone do invasive rituals. Use ruqyah duas, and encourage fasting and sincere tawbah if needed. I’ll pray for him.
