MUI Pushes for Death Penalty for Corruptors, KUII VIII Prepares Official Recommendation

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is pushing for the death penalty for large-scale corruptors whose actions threaten the state's survival. This proposal is going to be discussed at the 8th Indonesian Muslim Congress (KUII VIII) before being submitted to the government. MUI Deputy Chairman KH M. Cholil Nafis said that the MUI's fatwa opens the door for the death penalty if the corruption endangers the state's existence and harms the public at large. The death penalty is seen more as a preventive tool, not just retribution. KUII VIII will also talk about strengthening sharia economy, the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and regulations related to LGBT.
