Minister of Religious Affairs Prepares Employment Insurance for Madrasah Teachers to Mosque Imams
Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar emphasized his commitment to expanding employment social security protection for madrasah teachers, education staff, Islamic boarding school instructors, mosque imams, and muezzins. He said this while receiving the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan board of directors during the symbolic handover of compensation and membership cards.
The minister believes that workers in the education and religious service sectors play a strategic role with job risks that require state protection. “Madrasah teachers, Quran teachers, imams, muezzins, and education staff also have work accident risks and need social security protection,” he said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs will encourage local governments to also fund protection premiums for religious workers according to their authority. The minister stressed the importance of public awareness about insurance, considering that the protection costs are relatively small compared to the benefits, including for the continuity of religious services and education for future generations.
In addition to worker protection, the minister opened up opportunities to strengthen protection of state assets within the Ministry of Religious Affairs through insurance schemes, as part of the synergy with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
