Mataram LPA Highlights Alleged Negligence of Islamic Boarding School in Santri Burning Case in Central Lombok
The Mataram Child Protection Agency (LPA) is zeroing in on alleged supervision negligence at an Islamic boarding school over a bullying case that ended with three santri being burned in Central Lombok. One santri died and two others suffered serious burns. LPA Mataram head, Joko Jumadi, visited the surviving victims to make sure their rights to healthcare and legal aid are being met. Their condition is still pretty rough, with needs like a wheelchair and issues covering transport costs and regular treatment.
Joko is pushing the government and related parties to draw up guidelines for preventing and handling violence in Islamic boarding schools. He pointed out the weak oversight that let students get their hands on dangerous materials, plus allegations of internal settlements before reporting to the police-something he thinks could get in the way of uncovering the facts.
The police are still digging into the case, questioning witnesses and collecting evidence. No suspects have been named yet. Investigators are still sorting through different accounts from the victims' families and the school.
This case has drawn a lot of attention, with calls for a transparent legal process and making sure the victims' rights to healthcare, psychological support, and legal protection are fully met.
