Mass Poisoning in MBG Sidoarjo, East Java MUI Urges Police to Criminally Investigate SPPG Managers
The East Java branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is pushing the police to thoroughly investigate the mass poisoning case in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in Sidoarjo. The MUI thinks administrative sanctions like suspending or shutting down the Nutrition Service Unit Kitchens (SPPG) aren't enough if there's serious negligence or a criminal act involved.
East Java MUI General Secretary KH Hasan Ubaidillah stressed that victims suffering serious health impacts have the right to legal justice. He's asking the police to dig deep into the investigation to find out whether there was any intent or carelessness by the kitchen managers in serving the food.
This push for legal action is seen as crucial so that SPPG managers across East Java don't act recklessly. East Java MUI underscored the need for firm law enforcement as a warning to those running the MBG program-to ensure the meals they hand out meet hygiene, food safety, and halal standards, so this kind of thing doesn't happen again.
