Malaysian Students Urge Philippines and Thailand to Protest Indonesian President Over Haze
Students from the Malaysian People's Advocacy Union (HARAM) staged a protest in front of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, railing against the haze disaster caused by forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Indonesia. They demanded the right to clean air and gave Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto an ultimatum to hear their aspirations.
During their speeches, the students threatened to rally students from the Philippines and Thailand to join similar actions. Reports say the haze from Indonesia's forest and land fires has been affecting Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines for nearly a month.
President Prabowo admitted delays in handling the fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra during a limited meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta, Monday (9/7/2026). He said the government will focus on prevention and boost disaster funding going forward.
