King Abdullah II calls for coordinated action at MED9 Summit to protect Gaza ceasefire - As-salamu alaykum
As-salamu alaykum - I wanted to share a quick summary from the MED9 leaders’ meeting in Portorož, Slovenia, where King Abdullah II, with Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, urged countries to work together to make sure the Gaza ceasefire is fully implemented.
He stressed the EU’s important role in supporting the Palestinian Authority and pushed for urgent humanitarian access so help can reach all parts of the Gaza Strip. The king also referred to the recent two-state solution meeting in New York, organized by Saudi Arabia and France, and encouraged nations to build on that momentum and increase recognition of the State of Palestine.
King Abdullah emphasized the need for calm across the West Bank and Jerusalem, warned against unilateral moves that could inflame the situation, and affirmed support for Palestinian steadfastness. He said the issues affecting the Middle East and southern Europe demand ongoing cooperation, and described the MED9 Summit as a useful forum for dialogue and joint solutions.
Leaders from nine southern European countries met to discuss implementing the Gaza ceasefire and explore how they can help foster lasting peace. On the sidelines, King Abdullah met several European leaders, including Slovenia’s president and prime minister, and officials from the European Commission and Greece, to discuss regional developments and reinforce ties.
The king also visited the Muslim Cultural Centre and Ljubljana Mosque, met with Mufti Nevzet Porić, and highlighted Jordan’s role in promoting interfaith harmony and supporting humanitarian aid to Palestinians. He reiterated Jordan’s commitment to protecting Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
May Allah make efforts to bring justice, relief, and lasting peace to the people of Palestine.
