Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire Threatened Following Violation by Israeli Military
The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, in effect since Friday (April 17, 2024), is at risk of collapsing after Israeli military strikes in southern Lebanon. Lebanese media reported attacks on residential areas and vehicles, despite the agreed-upon ceasefire. Mahmoud Komati, deputy head of Hezbollah's political council, asserted that the group will not tolerate these violations and is preparing plans for the next stage of action.
Komati stated that Hezbollah does not recognize direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, which it views as detrimental to national interests. US President Donald Trump, via social media, declared that his administration is prohibiting further Israeli attacks on Lebanon, affirming the 10-day ceasefire he announced. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that his forces remain in control of the border buffer zone.
This conflict has resulted in over 2,200 deaths, 7,185 injuries, and more than 1 million refugees during the 45 days of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
