Israel Admits Unprecedented Iranian Bombing During the 2026 War
Moshe Patel, director of the Missile Defense Organization under Israel's Ministry of Defense, admitted that Israel faced unprecedented continuous bombing from Iran during the latest war from February to April 2026. This admission came after the latest test of the Iron Dome defense system, aimed at improving its ability to handle advanced threats.
"Throughout the war... we faced an unprecedented reality of continuous bombing, which required extraordinary operational flexibility and immediate field support, under extremely difficult conditions," Patel said. The Iron Dome remains the primary pillar of Israel's multi-layered air defense to intercept rockets and ballistic missiles.
Although it is claimed to have successfully intercepted thousands of threats, various media reports have pointed out the system's failures. A military investigation in February 2025 revealed serious shortcomings of the Iron Dome during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, with nearly half of the 3,700 rockets failing to be intercepted and the interceptor batteries depleted within hours.
